Following another successful AGM our 2021 campaign has officially commenced.
2020, surely is one that we would all like to have behind us and although there was no official season or games played, a lot still took place within the club over the last 12 months.

During the season, the committee approved our new five-year Strategic Plan. It was fantastic to review our last five years and reflect on the large number of indicators that were achieved or exceeded, and everyone involved throughout this period should be congratulated.

All involved at the club should be proud of what was achieved as a collective in preparing for the 2020 season and we were one of very few clubs in the league that were in a position to proceed prior to the season being officially called off due to Covid 19. Well done to everyone involved.

Let’s begin by thanking our committee, marketing & sponsorship co-ordinators, coach’s, players and volunteers for all the wonderful work that was done to get to this position.

Financially we finished the season off with a profit which is a fantastic achievement and the envy of many clubs. The club has a large amount of fixed costs, regardless of a season proceeding, especially through our financial commitment to the managers of our ground, the Avoca Sporting & Recreation Committee of Management.

Our financial position was assisted greatly through our amazing business partners who continued to sponsor our club through what has been an extremely difficult period for many. We hope by running a virtual season we were able to give your businesses exposure throughout the year. We are extremely appreciative of your ongoing support and thank you for your sponsorship. Thank you also to everyone who supported our Toyota Good for Footy Raffle, especially our football and netball playing group for their push of this raffle. To raise $7,000 through this fundraiser exceeded all expectations.

The committee continue to invest in our assets and throughout the year have built a large walk-in freezer to assist our canteen volunteers, erected a shed onsite for our bus and invested in security cameras and alarms at our complex.

The club is also working closely with DWELP on a large solar panel installation grant and the Pyrenees Shire Council on an LED lighting upgrade of the oval and netball courts. Hopefully there will be some exciting news in this regard over the coming months. We are also continuing with further improvements to our oval playing surface.

Its pleasing that basically all 2020 coaches will return for 2021, recruiting is well underway and senior training for both football and netball has commenced.

We are lucky to have a strong, united committee representing this great club, who will continue to review all aspects of our club in the pursuit of success both on and off the court/oval.

We had two committee members who did not seek re-election at the AGM. To Steve Carey and Craig Salmon, thank you for your valuable contribution to our club, not just this past year but for the many seasons that you have been involved.

We welcome Sandie Ward, Jason Hunt and Colleen Drummond on to the committee. Jason has taken on the role of Senior Football Manager and Colleen the recently created Health and Wellbeing coordinator role which was highlighted as a need in our strategic review. We wish our new committee members well in their roles and we look forward to working with you.

For those that are recommitting to the club in 2021, we look forward to welcoming you to the club over the coming weeks and months. Those that are moving on, thanks on behalf of all at the club for your services and we wish you well. I hope everyone enjoys and stays safe in the off-season and wish all the very best to the incoming committee for the 2021 season and beyond.
